Even after filtration, compressed air is saturated with moisture. When filtered air is chilled reaching dew point – this moisture condenses, causing negative effects. Otherwise, pure and dried gas increases productivity, efficiency and service life of the equipment.

Refrigerant dryers

Refrigerant dryer cools the compressed air through heat exchangers to a temperature of +3°C (i.e. refrigerant dryer provides +3°C dew point). Condensed moisture is automatically removed, and dried air moves farther into the pneumatic system.

Refrigerant dryers are used at mid temperatures of compressed air - up to +55°C, and at ambient temperature 0°C or above. Ere the dryer it is recommended to use an air pre-cleaning filter – to remove other particles and suspensions.

Membrane dryers - reliable, modern and easy-to-use: the membranes have no moving parts, require no maintenance, easy to replace.

The membrane dryer consists of hollow fibers. Air is blown into the membrane on the outer side of the membrane bunch. Vapors of moisture in the air seep into the fibers, and on the one exit from the membrane - dried air, and on the other - the water-saturated vapor. The pressure of dried air is approximately equal to the gas pressure at the inlet of dryer.

The dew point provided by a membrane dryer is up to -40°C. The temperature of the incoming and ambient air - from -20 to +50°C.

It is important to remember that the suspension of oil in a gas is harmful to the membranes, leading to their rapid run-out. Therefore, in the pneumatic system membrane dryers should be preceded by the oil filter.

Adsorption dryers

In the adsorption dryer moisture is absorbed by adsorbent. Moisture-saturated adsorbent is blown with hot air to remove moisture. Structurally, adsorption dryer consists of two columns, which work alternately (when the one column works - the second is blown). The adsorption dryer can also constructively be a slowly rotating rotor – drained air goes thru the one part of rotor, blowoff air thru another part.

The dew point of dried air for adsorption dryers is up to -70°C. The temperature of incoming air is +20 ... +50°C.

At the output of the adsorption dryer it is required to remove adsorbent particles - that is, an additional filter. At the entrance – oil filter is required.

Atmospheric air contains moisture and suspensions of various particles. Compressing air causes concentration of these particles and moisture. Besides, compressor itself can contaminate compressed air with oil vapors. That is, if compressed air is not pure enough – filters are used.
